Popular 3D Diagrams

My 3d images, especially the charts, have become huge sellers. The Chevron Diagram set has sold 11 times in 15 days! I'm trying to make more but I'm having trouble getting them accepted for some reason. I will keep submitting more variations and see if I can get a few more through the que.

Record Downloads

This month I broke my record for monthly downloads. I sold 433 as of yesterday which breaks the record from September 2008 of 407 downloads.

Open Shapes

My images with the ribbons were not accepted due to open shapes. When I zoom in to maximum, I saw what the problem was. So I will be fixing that today and re-submitting. Just another day of learning something new and getting stronger every day. My diagrams are selling very well and I'm going to focus on 3D for a few more days.

1,148 Images on istockphoto.com

I can't believe I have so many images on istockphoto.com. It has been just a little over a year now and I am on track to have 10,000 images within my 5 year window. The best thing about my library of images is that they are 100% owned by me. This will be a great commodity in my golden years with vector images really having a long shelf life in terms of trends.

Ribbons

Another version waiting for approval. Fingers crossed it gets approved.

More 3D Ribbons

This hasn't been approved yet but I just love the effect of these ribbons.

3D Ribbons

Last night I finally learned how to make smooth flowing 3D ribbons. It was so easy and they look amazing!

Seashells Sold Today

This little sea cartoon sold last night. I drew it almost a year ago. I should draw more soon.

50 Drawings a Week

With 50 upload slots given to me by istockphoto every week, making 50 drawings a week isn't difficult. The real challenge will be when I have 100 weekly upload slots once I get to diamond status. I wonder what I will being drawing then? Here is a shot I took at Laguna Beach and the drawing that I did.

Olympic Gold Medals

Sold 6 times, these medals represent teamwork and various sporting events. They have a laurel wreath frame and a subtle bevel.

Life of a Graphic Artist

When I first started my career, I wanted to do comic books. I had read them during my teenage years and had this fantasy of working over a drawing board and coming up with the next Superman. Little did I realize, the computer and internet would change everything. I find myself spending my time keeping up with the latest tech trends, art trends and marketing strategies. I wear many more hats than one man should but I find it to be very rewarding. There are challenges with any career but none seem quite so mysterious as being an artist. There is amazement that the work comes to fruition from a few meetings and drafts. After 15 years of creating, I can't wait to see what lies ahead.

Golden Gate Bridge

I drew this image in Adobe Illustrator from a photo I took while visiting San Francisco, CA. I removed the ocean below the bridge in order to give the impression the bridge fills the sky.

3D Icons

These 3D icons are not built in a 3D program but in Adobe Illustrator using the 3D tool. I begin with a flat image and Illustrator extrudes and rotates. There are a few more steps to make these fully functional but I am really happy with the results.

Valentine's Day Images

With February 14th fast approaching, here is a series of vector Valentine images I created.

Air Conditioner Icon

My first sale on a Sunday morning. These air conditioner icons have sold 42 times. I've had them online since May of last year and they are one of my most downloaded images. There are many different shapes and sizes of air conditioner units I sell but this set seems to be the most useful to people. It's still 7am PST here and I will be uploading 16 new images today. I'm making a series of 3D icons and some Easter cartoons. I will post them once they get approved by the istockphoto inspectors. You can view the details of this image by clicking here.

What are Vector Graphics

Many people are familiar with bitmap jpeg graphics because of the widespread use of the digital camera. Fewer people are aware of vector graphics. Vector graphics, which are eps files, are used in the same way as jpegs. The main differences are that vectors can be scaled to any size without loss of resolution. Vectors can also be easily recolored in a vector editing program such as Adobe Illustrator. The elements within a vector graphic can also be easily rearranged and even collaged with bitmap images. They are used in Flash animation, PowerPoint presentations, Vehicle sign wrapping, packaging, video, and the list goes on and on. You can check out some my latest vector art by clicking here.

Saturday Sales

This Saturday was typical in terms of sales, about 4 downloads. Here is one of the ones that sold.

Building a Vector Library

For the past year, I have been making vector graphics for istockphoto.com. So far it has been a very positive experience. I have over 2,000 downloads and over 1,000 images for sale. I hope to have 10,000 images in the next 5 years. Wish me luck!
